Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)
Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is usually indicated for those with severe sagging and excess skin and fat on the arms. In general, this occurs in people who have lost a lot of weight (such as post-bariatric or dietary reeducation patients) or have a genetic predisposition to sagging, especially after aging.
Like all other surgical procedures there are different types of techniques according to the severity of the case, for example if your problem is only a small sagging in the part of the arm near the shoulder a simple cut hidden in the armpit solves the problem, however if there is already more flaccidity and excess fat, but still not reaching the elbow we can make a T-shaped cut to correct it. Now if you already have excess skin and / or fat that reaches the elbow we will have to make the cut in the armpit and extend it up until the elbow.
It is a simple procedure that requires only 12 hours of hospitalization and is done under local anesthesia and venous sedation. The postoperative, unfortunately, is not very comfortable since there are limitations of movements in the first days, but in 4 to 5 days everything is normalized (except for beaches and gym that are restricted for a month).
To achieve almost imperceptible scars we use absorbable internal sutures and a surgical glue called Dermabond Prineo (Johnson & Johnson) consisting of a polyester tape that with the adhesive becomes an airtight (polymerized) closure for the wound, which keeps it fixed for 2 a 3 weeks improving its quality and functioning as a barrier against infection.
